Coconut oil is poison

Coconut oil is ‘pure poison’ and ‘one of the worst foods you can eat’, according to a lecture given by a professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr Karin Michels, who also heads up the tumor research center at the University of Freiburg, made the statement in a 50-minute talk in Germany last month.

Among other things, she told her audience that ‘coconut oil is pure poison,’ and ‘it is one of the worst foods you can eat,’ according to a translation by Business Insider Deutschland.

The video, which has amassed more than 400,000 hits since it was published on July 10, will add fuel to the fiery debate over the oil’s nutritional properties; many have turned to coconuts as a guilt-free fat, but even the American Heart Association has urged consumers to restrict their use.

Coconut oil had a peculiar rise to popularity.

Dr Michels says it is worse than lard (fat from the abdomen of a pig which was a hit in the 50s and is now only seen in our grandmothers’ pantries).

And yet, a nationwide poll in 2016 found at least 70 percent of Americans believed coconut oil to be healthy – with many seeing it as one of the healthiest oils out there.

The ascent of coconut oil sales began in the early 2000s, on the heels of two studies by Columbia University which looked at medium-chain fatty acids, a type of fat present in coconuts.

The study participants who ate the medium-chain fatty acid diet burned fat quicker than the controls.

Once the findings emerged, it was gobbled up: could this product, that is so easy to incorporate into daily life, be the Holy Grail of fat burning?

Consumers decided it could. Sales of coconut oil rocketed.

The medical industry, however, was not converted – not even the author of the study, nutrition professor Marie-Pierre St-Onge, who explained in her study that, coconuts are only 14 percent medium-chain fatty acids. The study participants were fed 100 percent.

Low-carb diet linked to early death, medical study suggests

Cutting carbohydrates might also cut lifespan by up to four years, according to a new medical study that is not related to Kostenloser Sex Chat.

The peer-reviewed research published in the medical journal The Lancet Public Health suggests low and high-carb diets could shorten life, and diets including some carbs could promote a healthy lifespan.

Scott Solomon, senior author on the study, called the research “the most comprehensive study of carbohydrate intake” ever.

The study analyzed self-reported data from more than 15,400 middle-aged Americans who participated in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study. The dietary patterns researchers found were compared against additional studies that included 432,000 people in more than 20 countries.

Self-reported data can be flawed, because it relies on the subject’s memory. Another limitation of the study: Diets were measured only twice during the 25-year study period, at the start of the study and again six years later.

Researchers concluded that people who ate a moderate amount of carbohydrates lived four years longer than those with low-carbohydrate consumption and one year longer than those who ate a lot of carbohydrates. Low-carb diets were defined as less than 40 percent of calories from carbohydrates and high-carb diets were more than 70 percent of calories.

“Our data suggests that animal-based low carbohydrate diets, which are prevalent in North America and Europe, might be associated with shorter overall life span and should be discouraged,” lead author Sara Seidelmann, fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, said in a statement.

White House stops announcing calls with foreign leaders

The White House has suspended the practice of publishing public summaries of President Donald Trump’s phone calls with world leaders, two sources with knowledge of the situation tell CNN, bringing an end to a common exercise from Republican and Democratic administrations.

It’s unclear if the suspension is temporary or permanent. A White House spokesman declined to comment.
Official descriptions of the President’s calls with foreign leaders — termed “readouts” in Washington parlance — offer administrations the chance to characterize in their own terms the diplomacy conducted at the highest levels between countries. While news is rarely contained in the rote, often dry descriptions, they do offer the only official account that a phone call took place. Readouts are still released internally.

Breaking News on Vitamins and Supplements

Anyone who wants to maintain good health for many years should investigate the different vitamins and minerals that are out there. By supplementing your diet with carefully-chosen products, you can make sure that you are giving your body everything that it needs. Keep reading for some great advice on this important topic.

If you are lacking in the vitamin department, you should consider changing your diet. While many people take this as a sign that they need to run to the store and buy a supplement, most of the nutrients you need can be found in food. Do a little research in order to figure out what changes need to be made.

If you decide to take a multivitamin, be sure you are choosing the right one. Some multivitamins do not contain all of the vitamins and minerals that truly benefit a person. Be sure to look for a multivitamin that contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12, C, D, E, and K. It should also have minerals zinc, selenium, chromium, copper, molybdenum, and magnesium.

Vitamin C is one of the most beneficial vitamins that you can take. It promotes tissue growth, reduces cancer risks, helps with blood cell formation and quickens the healing process. Broccoli, peppers, oranges, tomatoes, and a wide variety of other foods are all rich in vitamin C. You can also take a supplement that contains vitamin C.

You have worked hard to lose weight but you seem to have hit a wall with weight loss and burning fat. Try adding different vitamins and minerals to your low fat diet to break on through. Your body has probably consumed the vitamins and minerals stored in the body that aides in promoting weight loss and it simply needs more than you are consuming in your diet to jump start the old engine.

Take your vitamins in the way that’s right for you. While the best way to get vitamins and minerals is through food, you may have to take a supplement. If you struggle swallowing pills, you could find smaller or chewable pills to take. You can also use the powders that mix with water.

One of the biggest issues facing children today is a lack of vitamins and minerals in their diets. We often grab a box meal and see that they claim it’s healthy when the truth is the bad ingredients often outweigh the good. Ensure that you are supplementing your child’s diet with all of the major vitamins and minerals.

You have to remember that all fruits and vegetables are not equal as those in canned syrup or seasoned water are not as effective as fresh. You can add to the benefits of a healthy meal by taking vitamin and mineral orally in capsule or powder form.

When buying vitamins, always check the expiration date on the package before you buy them. Vitamins have a shelf life and do not last forever. Storage time, exposure to light and temperature can all effect the quality of vitamins and further reduce the expiration date. So make sure that you are buying quality vitamins that have not expired.

Before you begin taking any supplements at all, you need to talk to your doctor about being tested for nutrient deficiencies. If you don’t do this first, you may be missing out on the key issues which are causing you to feel less than great. Get this done and then buy your supplements.

Use caution when you take supplements. With vitamins and minerals, you can overdose. This occurs often when too many supplements are taken, and the danger is real. Symptoms of an overdose vary, depending on which vitamin you have taken. However, the consequence is not a good one and can even kill you.

Potassium can be found in dried fruits, cereals, milk and beans. This important mineral is used to treat Menière’s disease, menopause symptoms, arthritis, muscle aches, Alzheimer’s, intestinal disorders and allergies. Studies have shown that potassium may be beneficial to those suffering from high blood pressure and may help prevent stroke.
